Before or after going through the C&D Canal, Chesapeake City is a great spot to tie up and get off the boat for a little bit. The dockage is free and it’s a cheap chance to hook up to electric and fill your water tanks.

Anchorage and Dockage

  • Free 24-hour dockage – Chesapeake City provides a free dock for boaters passing through. $10 for water and $15 for electric.
  • Anchoring basin – If there is no room at the dock there is an anchorage in the basin.

Fuel

  • Schaefer’s Marina – Fuel here was one of the more expensive stops at $4.05/gallon. However, we already weren’t completely sure how much we had left since we don’t have a working gauge on our tanks. We waiting until 9 a.m. when they opened and had a difficult time hailing them on the VHF. A quick walk up to the office solved the problem and the manager came down the dock to help us.

Things to Do

  • Walk around the town – There isn’t much to walk around, but it is still a cute town to stretch your legs.
  • Canal Creamery and Sweet Shoppe – In the summer, no stop is complete without trying to local ice cream shop. This is located directly across the street from the free city docks.
  • Cafe on the Bay – This is almost as close as the ice cream spot. As a treat before leaving the dock, we stopped to grab coffee from this cafe. Everyone was friendly and helpful and are used to people passing through.
